Whether he likes it or not, Top Suzara's debut solo
album from Universal Records, "Carry On", will be branded
as a post-Freestyle outing.
Top Suzara opted to keep
quiet the past seasons, right after his decision to leave
the band. There was the usual emotional setback which
he amazingly converted into positive energy. His own
deep-well of feelings, from all the triumphs and hearthaches,
Top could easily tap, being a prolific singer/tuneweaver
who can comfortably write three to four songs a day.
The more Top became inspired and challenged, the more
his creative juices continuously poured, to come up with
14 of the most touching and heart-warming songs he has
ever written. All of them can now be heard in the newly
released album.
Obviously, the album's repertoire is
very personal, but Top stresses that they are common
experiences which can related to everybody. His songs
have themes and messages that have been part of a very
colourful life.
Take the carrier single, "Sabihin Mo
Na". It is a mid-tempo
rocker of an apology that extends to a vow of everlasting
romance. The song also features one of the country's
top session guitar players filling in tasteful licks
and heartfelt solos. The music video is now one of the
most requested items in MYX music channel. It is not
surprising that the initial Top Suzara single would be
a current entry in the MYX Top Ten Daily Countdown.
"On
The Sand", another song on "Carry On" is receiving
heavy airplay on NU 107 - a testament to the broad range
of music that's being covered by Top. It's quite safe
to say that most, if not all, of the songs are very radio
friendly. Different stations may have their own picks,
just as different individuals would. Either way, the
listener can't go wrong with any of the songs.
Top has
performed and created several Freestyle hits, beginning
with "Before I Let You Go" in the past. Now,
the sensitive, sensible and prolific hit maker has a
new, fresh start as a solo artist with his debut solo
album.
One of Top's most personal tracks is a song called "Angel
Eyes", which he wrote for his dearly departed mom and
just recently, his dad too. It's an emotionally very
compelling song that evokes the listener to appreciate
the loved ones that are still here. while we still can. "Magpakailanman" is
the Filipino version of "Angel Eyes" which, locally,
has assumed a more universal appeal with its Tagalog
lyrics.
Top goes light and breezy in "Overcast", a grower
of a song which sings of simple pleasures. The songs
in Top Suzara's "Carry On" is a wholesome
blend of folk, rock, new wave, country and pop. Whichever
way Top goes, he brings his listeners to pleasurable,
memorable musical trips. The Top Suzara "Carry On" album
launch was held at Mugen Bar & Restaurant in the
Pasig Metrowalk.
